In the desert I found death everywhere. Not death in the terrible and terrifying sense, but death as the reason for life with all its beauty, attraction and complexity. For me, the desert was like Dante's Inferno, a journey into the depths of the soul, where the human condition can be seen from a distance. This feeling was not only reflected in the landscapes. Everything in the desert: the objects, the roads, the ruined cities, seem suspended in time, somewhere beyond our lives. The intensity of the light, the monochromatism, the depths of the shadows, the immensity of the sky and the simple difficulty of existing there transported me to a place beyond. I tried to represent that feeling as if I were illustrating a book that has not yet been written.
